Duane McDevitt and Michele McConnell have a beautiful musical marriage. They met in 1993 while working with the Indianapolis Opera during a production of Tosca, and that was just the beginning. They were married two and a half years later, each of them performing in different shows the night before their wedding. Since then, they have been fortunate to perform together in Opera, Operetta, and Musical Theatre all over the World and the Seven Seas in over twenty five different productions and in more than a dozen concert venues. Some of the highlights of their theatrical experiences together include touring with Robert Goulet in Camelot, and performing opposite one another as Magnolia and Ravenal in Showboat. Their duo shows have appeared on cruise ships around the world for Regent Seven Seas and the Delta Queen Steamboat Company. They have performed concert work at Carnegie Hall, San Diego Chamber Orchestra, San Diego Lyric Opera, Missouri Symphony, and across Europe at some of The Leading Hotels of the World including the Victoria-Jungfrau Grand Hotel and Spa and the Palace Luzern in Switzerland, and the Reid’s Palace Hotel in Madeira. Their European audiences have included many dignitaries, even the King of Belgium who commanded an encore. Michele and Duane pride themselves on being “A Diverse Duo”, and they are fast becoming successors to the title “America’s Sweethearts”. Indianapolis was The Start of Something Big for This Husband and Wife Vocal Duo!!!
Kicking off Actors Theatre of Indiana’s 2008 Season will be the continuation of its annual cabaret tradition with the fun and entertaining World Premiere of… This Could Be THE START OF SOMETHING BIG! Direct from New York, Duane McDevitt and Michele McConnell perform the World Premiere of This Could Be THE START OF SOMETHING BIG! at The Oakhill Mansion in Carmel (5801 E. 116th Street, Carmel, IN 46033) for two nights only May 28 and May 29, 2008.
Duane and Michele first met here in Indianapolis while working with the Indianapolis Opera’s production of Tosca almost 15 years ago. “I fell for a nun,” Duane says, “Well, at least she was playing one at the time.”
Their musical marriage, which has spanned over a decade, has now come full circle, returning to where it all started and perform their exciting new cabaret – specially created just for you! They have traveled all around the globe having performed in Theatre, Musical Theatre, Opera, Operetta, and Symphony Orchestra Concerts as well as having delighted the most discriminating of audiences on some of the world’s most luxurious ocean liners. A few career musical highlights include performing opposite one another in Showboat, performing with Robert Goulet in his final tour of Camelot, and Duane’s solo engagement at Carnegie Hall.
Michele is a graduate of Mount Vernon High School (Fortville, Indiana) and Butler University. “It’s great to be back in my home town performing again,” says Michele. “We have performed our act around the world and now it’s time to bring it home. We are going to sing some of your favorites from yesteryear. Think Steve and Eydie, Fred and Ginger, and MacDonald and Eddy just to name a few.”
Duane and Michele believe in being musically diverse, and this show is no exception. This Could Be THE START OF SOMETHING BIG! will feature musical numbers from Broadway, Swing, and Operetta - all blended together. “We are so fortunate to be able to make music together, and we can’t wait to share it with you, Indianapolis.”
